Robotics in Astronomy

Robots in Astronomy Exhibition Stand With an Ingenious grant from the Royal Academy of Engineering, engineers from the UK Astronomy Technology Centre, Edinburgh, developed a public engagement activity based on robotics in telescopes.

Their inspiration came from research at the UK ATC into a robotics system which could be used on the E-ELT instrument, EAGLE, for studying multiple objects simultaneously.

Since it’s development, Oxford University partners and UK ATC engineers continue to present it at various different events, from open days to BBC Stargazing Live events.

Alongside the activity, a short video that describes how robots are used in astronomy was produced which can be seen here:
